8th North Arkansas Ancestor Fair

Leslie, Arkansas - June 5-7, 1997

The Eighth Annual North Arkansas Ancestor Fair will be held June 5-7, 1997, in the public school at Leslie, Arkansas, on U.S. Highway 65, 85 miles south of Branson, Missouri, and 100 miles north of Little Rock.

Thursday's events will include a presentation on "Researching National Archives-Kansas City Branch" with Shirley Donaldson dealing with special records of particular interest to Ozarkers - Internal Revenue records dealing with federal marshals, whiskey distillers, (both legal and illegal) along with scarce Civil War records. Thursday evening, Ms. Donaldson will talk about her success in tracking the legendary "Indian Chief" Peter Cornstalk, who married Mary Adams on the banks of the White River.

On Friday, Desmond Walls Allen, competent researcher and entertaining speaker, will give a series of presentations and take questions on Creative Problem Solving & Confederate Military Research. There will also be hands-on Internet Experience provided by Dorothy Ragland in the Leslie School computer lab for those doing research "surfing the net."

Saturday afternoon beginning at 1:00, ever-popular Dorothy Tincup Mauldin will lead a discussion and answer questions about researching the Five Civilized Tribes (Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek & Seminole).
